Normally we’d be protesting our Representative Kim Schrier, but she’s not on the lineup this year!
After two years of Wenatchee for Palestine protesting her appearance at Apple Blossom, she’s too afraid to face her constituents because she knows that her support for Israel and her vote for the Laken Riley Act are deeply unpopular!
So this year, we are going to be focusing our protest on more local politicians instead. We’ll be handing out Palestine and Mexico flags as well as flyers (provided below).
Anyone is welcome to join us and stand/sit with us in the crowd, or to stand somewhere else along the route and shout at our politicians from there. You can find us by the giant Palestine-related banners and flag!
First up on the Stemilt Grand Parade lineup: Mike Poirier, City of Wenatchee Mayor, and Jerrilea Crawford, East Wenatchee Mayor, at number 47 and 48 respectively.
We are protesting both mayors for their complicity in Wenatchee’s and East Wenatchee’s decisions to remove the Pride banners in June. Join us in shouting: “Hey, Mayor, you can’t take our Pride!” when they come by.
Next up: Mike Steele, State Representative, Keith Goehner, 12th District State Senator, and Brian Burnett, Washington State Representative, at numbers 56, 72, and 82 respectively.
We are protesting Goehner because he voted against SJM 8014, which would have demanded an investigation into Israel’s murder of Washington resident Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi in 2024. Steele and Burnett also didn’t help pass the Ayşenur bill. None of them have supported divesting our state funds from apartheid Israel or placing limits on ICE.
Join us in shouting: “Justice for Ayşenur (eye-sha-nor)!” “No funds for genocide!” when they come by.
Also, we were contacted by a member of Ayşenur’s family, and the family is really grateful for what we’re doing. The “Justice for Ayşenur” signs that we will have are designs that were provided to us by Ayşenur’s family. So if you join us in participating in this protest, know that if nothing else, it’s personally really meaningful for Ayşenur’s family that we are doing this!
Please stick around after our state reps go by in the parade to cheer for our friends in the Rainbows delegation: Out NCW, “NCW Justice Coalition – Rainbows” and Confluence Indivisible, “NCW Justice Coalition – Rainbows”, numbers 100 and 101 in the lineup!
Also, we encourage everyone to wear rainbow/Pride colors to the parade if you can! Let’s help spread the rainbow beyond just the parade procession.
If you’d like to print your own flyers for the parade, we have them available here:
